Are you dreaming of retirement but worried about how to fund it? A lifestyle business might be the answer you’ve been looking for. A lifestyle business is a passive income business that you can build over 3-5 years while you’re still working, enabling you to eventually retire in peace. Start here to learn the steps to secure your future retirement with a passive income lifestyle business.
Some people call it a passion. Other people call it a hobby. I use obsession, because passions change, and hobbies come and go, but obsessions are a lifetime pursuit.
There is something you can’t NOT do. What is it? Organizing? Crafts? Music? Sharing popular culture? Telling people what to do? There is something in your life that you are obsessed with. It might not come to mind right away because you don’t think about it, you just do it.
Your obsession, no matter what it is, can become a business that lets you live your dream lifestyle. Seriously, it is. Whatever it is that you’re obsessed with, there are millions of other people who are also obsessed with it. They are your tribe. They are your ticket to living your dream life. You just need to find your tribe. Which isn’t really as hard as you think. You’re already visiting websites, forums, and blogs about your chosen obsession. You already talk to people, both online and offline, about THAT thing. Now you just need to find a way to gather all those people together and serve them so you can make a living doing what you love to do.
That is the main key. Serving your market. “If you help enough other people get what they want, you can have everything you want.” – Zig Ziggler, sales trainer and motivational speaker. It’s been a driving force in marketing for decades.
Your obsession will be your main indicator of a primary business model.
Always doing crafts? That lends itself well to course creation and affiliate marketing.
Like to share all your favorite pop culture references? That might be best achieved with physical products like wall art, mugs, and T-shirts. This is best performed through ecommerce and print on demand.
Can’t stop yourself from telling people what to do? You were probably born to be a coach. This often leads to courses and book publishing.
These are just starting points. To have a truly thriving lifestyle business, you’ll want multiple streams of income. This way, if there’s ever a drop in one stream, it doesn’t have as great an impact on your lifestyle. There are natural ebbs and flows in business. The better you can ride them out, the better it’ll be for your peace of mind.
This can be the hardest part of creating a business. An ineffective strategy can ruin your business. And many people confuse tactics with strategy. There are many useful tactics, but they must all fit into a cohesive marketing strategy to be successful. New tactics can often garner quick wins, but they are often short lived. The key is to create a long-term strategy that consistently builds your business.
My approach to business building is through Content Marketing. This uses content (blogs, articles, video, podcasts, etc) to attract, engage, and persuade your audience - giving them what they are seeking.
A cohesive marketing strategy will inform which tactics will work best, and how those tactics are implemented. Tactics are merely a vehicle to implement the strategy, not the strategy itself.
Once you've gotten started building your passive income business, it's important to persevere and keep going. Building a lifestyle business for passive income doesn't happen overnight. It takes work, dedication and consistency to make your dreams a reality.
Start by setting short-term goals. Small wins are essential for building momentum and staying motivated. Break down the larger goal of retiring with a passive income business into smaller, more manageable tasks that you can easily tackle.
Don't be discouraged if you hit a wall or experience setbacks. These are part of any journey and don't necessarily mean that you're on the wrong path. With perseverance, you'll be able to make it to the other side and reach your long-term goals.
Remember to take time to celebrate your accomplishments and successes along the way. As you build up your business, it's important to recognize how far you've come and celebrate the steps you've taken to get there. This will give you a renewed sense of purpose and motivation when things get tough.
Building a passive income lifestyle business that will fund your retirement is not an easy feat, but with consistent implementation, you can make it happen. Set small goals, stay focused and remind yourself why this is important to you. Your "why" will keep you motivated on your path towards financial freedom.
